12 AMAZING Facts about Black Panther

The Black Panther film has been a huge topic of discussion since Marvel announced the start of its production in late January.

Now, it’s the film’s opening weekend, things are getting real. I mean people have been talking about dressing up and wearing formal attire to opening weekend. It’s gotten that serious.

If you’re a Marvel fan you’ll know what this film is all about. But, if you’re like me, virtually oblivious to the comic world, you probably don’t know much about the film other than what everyone’s talking about.

In a quest for more information, I found a video that described 101 Facts about Black Panther. So, if you want to learn a little extra something about the movie before actually watching the movie, look no further. Here’s a list of 12 facts about Black Panther you need to know now:

 

1.      When Black Panther debuted in 1966, he became the first black superhero to grace mainstream American comics.

2.      The creator’s original concept for Black Panther was really named Cold Tiger.

3.      Black Panther was briefly re-named Black Leopard in 1972 as an attempt by Marvel to dissociate themselves from being associated with the known black power group.

4.      Ryan Coogler, director of the upcoming Black Panther film, is the first black director of a Marvel Studios film.

5.      Black Panther’s actual identity is T’Challa, leader and protector of a fictional African nation called Wakanda.

6.      In Marvel’s world, Wakanda is the richest and most prosperous nation in the world. Why, might you ask? The country has a large source of the extremely rare material, Vibaranium, which they sell and trade to other nations at a high price.

7.      The name Black Panther a ceremonial title given to the chosen leader of Wakanda’s Panther clan.

8.      It is mandatory for the chosen one to get their body covered in the juices of the heart shaped herb, a plant native to Wakanda and toxic to outsiders. The juices make the individual immune from all known diseases and poisons, among other benefits.

9.      T’challa’s net worth is $90 trillion, which is 20 times the amount of money that exists in the real world.

10.  Black Panther is protected by a group of exclusively female bodyguards named theDora Milajie. The Dora Milajie made their first debut in 1998.

11.  In Marvel’s alternate universe, Marvel Zombies, most of the world’s superheroes are turned into zombies. However, Black Panther managed to escape this tragedy by self-amputating his infected limbs.
