Last year, a viral video of officers shooting and killing Alton Sterling sparked protest nationwide. Some of the protest became very violent as citizens petitioned for justice. The controversy that had been sparked from the video was focused on if Sterling’s rights had been violated or not. In the video, two officers were arguably detaining Sterling beneath a car. As things escalated between the three, one of the officers reached for his gun and shot Sterling. After this incident had occurred, the officers were put on paid administration leave until the courts reached a decision.
Today the decision on the case has been made and people are outraged. Courts made the decision based off lack of evidence from the scene. The two Baton Rouge, Louisiana officers have been found not guilty. Predictions are that more violent protest can erupt like before. Citizens will continue to lose their faith in the justice system as poor decisions like this continue to be made.
